The internet seems to be inundated with web sites and blog posts, each with the perfect solution to helping you be better organized, or helping you decrease the clutter in your life. With just a little research, you should hopefully find something that appeals to you. Clutter truly can add unnecessary stress to your everyday life. Decreasing clutter decreases your overall stress. It is a win-win situation. Less clutter makes for a more appealing home and a less stressful you.
2. Turn your backyard into your own paradise. Some of you may have to wait for warmer weather, but you can still plan it now. Half of the fun is the planning, right? There are plenty of things you can do to make your backyard your own little piece of paradise. Add a patio, build a deck, add a swing, build a flower garden . . . It may be cold outside now, but you can still look out that window and get ideas of what you would like to do when the weather is warmer.
3. Do you have unused rooms in your home? Do you have rooms where the doors are forever closed and you rarely go in them? Turn them into something you have always wanted, or even something a little more on the practical side. Empty spare rooms can be reinvented into what would soon become your favorite room in the entire house - crafting rooms, computer rooms, home offices, workout rooms - wherever your primary interests lie. Instead of having your personal projects stashed away by the couch, or in a nightstand drawer, or on an empty shelf on the bookcase, dedicating a room to organizing your own personal projects, your own arts and crafts, can be an enlightening and fulfilling project.
Empty storage rooms or side rooms in garages can be updated into laundry rooms or even larger pantries if you are the type to stock up on items or buy in bulk. Don't forget the men here either. I'm sure they'd like their own place to store all their tools, or maybe even their own sports room, or a room dedicated to their own personal interests.
4. Invest in a calendar you really like. I think this is probably the most important idea! A calendar you will take the time to keep up with scheduling is an invaluable asset. The best way to keep your home and family life halfway organized and sort of running smoothly and clean is a schedule of some sort. A calendar will help you stick to it. A calendar you actually like and will remember to turn to and use is even better.
5. Does your home have a lot of empty walls - a lot of blank spaces? The easiest way to make your home more inviting, to portray a warmer atmosphere, to make it feel more like "home" is to make the walls feel welcoming. Hang pictures on your walls, cover your walls with artwork that has special meaning, places you have visited or want to visit, photos you have taken, any number of possibilities, children's artwork.
I hope some of these ideas help.
