My name is Gwendolyn Michelle, and I am a young adult author. I am also a medical transcriptionist. That is the job that pays the bills. However, I like the writing much better! For me, writing has always been a wonderful extension of myself. I am quite a recluse by nature, so this offers me the ability to experience things I normally would never consider even a possibility.
I was born and raised in Georgia. I am truly a Southern girl by the Grace of God. I can say "bless your heart" and have it be sweet and endearing, or I can say it and have it be dripping with sarcasm. I like to drink sweet tea. I like to have shrimp with my grits. I appreciate the atmosphere of a Waffle House at 2 o'clock in the morning.
About two years ago now, my life didn't just make a change in a different direction…my life veered off the familiar country dirt road, did a couple of loopty-loops similar to Spaghetti Junction in downtown Atlanta, and I ended up here in Maine, a good 1300 miles away from everything and everyone I had ever known.
It's hard to explain, even for me, but it feels more like home here than any place I have ever been. The snow is awesome. My world should always be white. I imagine my true happiness being somewhere like a spectacular snow globe, where everything is always white and the snow is mixed with glitter.
I have two seasons in my life, Snow Season and Shell Season. Ever since I was a little girl, I have collected seashells. One of my earliest beach memories is me at 4 years old, walking along the coast line at Panama City Beach, Florida, finding seashells with my grandpa. Here in Maine, there is a small island I can go to and find all the shells, including whole sand dollars, my little heart desires.
I have had 3 books published, It's Only Me, Where I Belong and Blessed Darkness.
My favorite author while growing up, and probably the one author that was the most influential, is Lurlene McDaniel. I began writing young adult books because of her. However, my style, my interests changed, and my third book was considered Dark Fantasy. So I count myself as a Young Adult/Dark Fantasy author.
Out of my books, only one, is still being published and available for purchase. It's Only Me, my first book that was published in 2003, the year my youngest son passed away. It was always my dream to be a published author, and I held my first published book in my hand exactly 7 days after the biggest loss of my life. It was a happy day, it was an exciting day, but it was also a very humbling day at the same time.
I have a poetry book I put together in the years following my son, Matthew's, death. It is very personal, but it is a story I would like to share. It may be something I consider publishing as an ebook later this year. I think my goal with this would be to help someone with it, to offer comfort from the perspective of someone who has experienced the greatest tragedy but never gave up hope and learned to live again, even with missing pieces.
My other 2 books, Where I Belong and Blessed Darkness, are no longer being published by my former publisher, but I am working on having them distributed as ebooks later this year.
Blessed Darkness has a sequel, Broken Moon, that is a work in progress. It is the story of a young man who lived a simple southern life, was bitten by a werewolf, and he was thrown rather unceremoniously into this world that he never even believed existed, a place where his very existence depended upon interactions with other mythological creatures, a trio of little fae girls, who help to guide him on this new journey as a dangerous creature hunter in a suddenly dark and sometimes scary world.
I also have a new series, Whispers of Moonlight, the first book titled Saving Grace, that is coming along quite nicely. The series revolves around a group of angels that fell to Earth, and the souls they have chosen to work with closely, to save our planet. They left their home to help save ours.
I have a couple of blogs on Tumblr that I keep updated for fun. One is an OCD Organizational blog that I am seriously considering changing over to an ebook as well.
I keep this one updated with whatever interests me at the moment. Right now it seems to be populated with Supernatural and Les Miserables.
I keep this one updated with my own posts about organization and cleaning. I include checklists and sometimes even recipes. I also like to re-blog photos that are a good representation of what I consider Living with Organizational OCD.
This is the place for various pictures, quotes, anything I find that I think might offer inspiration at a later time for my new series.
I can be found on facebook, the first is my own personal facebook, and the second pertains to the new book series.
I can also be found on Twitter, and I must admit…Twitter can be quite addicting.
I am also on GoodReads, for the time being. With the recent acquisition of GoodReads by Amazon, I am not certain what the future holds here.
And I saved the best for last! My web site:
